Colour vision screening - Information and consent

2 minute colour vision screening

You are being invited to a 2-minute colour vision screening, which will suggest your colour vision type based on a colour-matching task.

Why have I been invited to take part?

We are looking for people with a mild form of colour blindness for a research study.

You may find out you are "colourblind"

There is a chance you may be told you could have a colour vision deficiency you did not know about. This screening does not constitute a diagnosis: if you would like a formal diagnosis you will need to visit an ophthalmologist. If your screening results indicate that you could have a colour vision deficiency, you will be given further information and invited to take part in our research, which is entirely optional. The University of Sussex has insurance in place to cover its legal liabilities in respect of this study.

Nothing will be recorded

No results will be recorded, but will inform a verbal recommendation as to your probable colour vision type. If your screening indicates a possible colour vision deficiency, we will invite you to sign up as a potential future participant in colour vision research done by our University of Sussex lab.
If you consent to being contacted again we will only contact you about research participation, and we will give you a means of removing your data when you no longer wish to be on our participation mailing list.

Consent

  • I understand that by signing this form I am agreeing to take an anomaloscope test for colour vision deficiency, which will give an indication of colour vision type, not a diagnosis.

  • I understand that my participation is entirely voluntary, and that I can withdraw at any stage.

  • I understand that no data will be recorded, and that I am not obliged to leave any contact details or take part in further research.

  • I understand that if I do choose to leave contact details, they will be handled in accordance with Data Protection legislation. I understand that the University’s Privacy Notice provides further information on how the University uses personal data in its research. If you give contact details and later wish to withdraw them, you may do so by emailing Lucy Somers at L.Somers@sussex.ac.uk.

For further information about this research please contact researcher Dr Lucy Somers (L.Somers@sussex.ac.uk) or study supervisor Dr Jenny Bosten (J.Bosten@sussex.ac.uk). This screening is part of research which has been approved (ER/LS487/20) by the Science, Engineering and Medicine Faculty REC: Science, Engineering and Technology (SEM F-REC:SET).
